Business Management Counselor with the Maryland Small Business Development Center Network has a 1995 graduate degree in Business Administration (MBA) from The Boston University, School of Management. He has an undergraduate degree from Northeastern University in Boston, MA (BA Ed.), and a Masters in Education from Boston Univ. (MS Ed.) Mr. Turner has focused his studies on the best practices of entrepreneurs and the application of those practices to small business owners. Mr. Turner has facilitated a semester long training seminar for business owners to research and write a business plan using materials developed by NxLevel Education, Inc. Mr. Turner has taught in the Howard University School of Business graduate and undergraduate programs, UMass Boston MBA program, and UMass Boston undergraduate program on Small Business Management and Entrepreneurship. In 1996 Mr. Turner was elected the US Small Business Administration's Small Minority Business Advocate for Massachusetts
Mr. Turner has been a small business consultant and strategic planner in business development to entrepreneurs and the self employed for 25 years. Primarily, he has worked within the Small Business Development Centers Network, were he has assisted new and existing business owners in identifying resources needed by the entrepreneur. In 2001 Mr. Turner was named the Executive Director of The Washington, DC Small Business Development Center at Howard University. Mr. Turner is a member of the Association of Small Business Development Centers and served on the Board of Directors and the Education/Conference Committee. Mr. Turner was certified in Corporate Cultural Transformation Tools in 2008.
Prior to working in SBTDC consulting, Mr. Turner owned a minority manufacturing company in Lawrence, MA. This company was one of the first SBA 8(a) manufacturers, specifically in the high tech fields of electronics, contracting with Department of Defense agencies, The Army and The Air Force. His company was one of the top New England Prime Contractors in 1983.
